What it is

Like Canva, but it can actually write text inside the image without errors

Ideogram is a free AI tool that generates images from a text description — and its real differentiator is this: it can place readable words inside the image. Think of a post with a bold quote overlaid on a background, or a logo with the company name. Most generators mangle the letters or invent garbled characters. Ideogram gets the text right. It is like having a designer on call who understands typography — without you opening Photoshop.

Why it matters

The artwork that used to take an hour in Canva now takes two minutes

A social media manager spends a large part of the day assembling quote arts — story cards, campaign banners, carousel covers. Each piece means finding a font, adjusting colors, aligning text, exporting. Repeated dozens of times a week.

2 min

With Ideogram, you describe the artwork you want — background, style, and the exact phrase in quotes — and receive four ready options. Pick the best one, download, and publish. Your competitor who already found this delivers twice the content in the same time.

How different professionals use it

Social Media

Generates quote arts for stories and feeds in seconds. Describes the brand style, puts the phrase in quotes inside the prompt, and gets 4 options to choose from — without opening any editor.

Entrepreneur

Creates logos and launch visuals without hiring a designer. Describes the concept, tests variations, and uses whichever best matches the brand identity.

Teacher / HR

Produces visual materials for training: simple infographics, presentation covers, internal notice banners — all with correct text inside the image, no extra tool required.

Step by step

From description to finished image

// interface verified in June 2026 — if something looks different, look for the description field or the generate button on the Ideogram home screen
  1. Go to ideogram.ai

Click "Start for free" (top right corner). Sign in with Google, Apple, or Microsoft — no password needed.

  2. Type your description in the central field

This is the large text box on the home screen. Describe what you want to see: scene, colors, visual style, and if the image should include text, place it in quotes inside the prompt.

example: dark purple background, minimalist art, with the words "Full Focus" in large white letters
  3. Choose style and aspect ratio

Below the text field you will find selectors: style (Design, Realistic, Anime, 3D, General) and image ratio (square, portrait, landscape). For Instagram posts, use square or 4:5 portrait.

  4. Select the model

The side panel or the menu above the field lets you choose between Ideogram versions. The most recent model available on the free plan is selected by default — leave it as is.

  5. Click "Generate"

The button is on the right side of the prompt field. Ideogram returns 4 variations in roughly 15 to 30 seconds.

  6. Download or refine

Click the preferred image to enlarge it, then click the download icon. To adjust, use the "Remix" button to edit the prompt and generate new variations from the same base.

Tips & common mistakes

Do this

  • Put the exact text in quotes inside the prompt — this signals to the model that those specific words should appear literally in the image.
  • Use the "Design" style when the goal is a post, banner, or logo — it prioritizes typographic composition over photorealism.
  • Enable Magic Prompt (option in the panel) to let Ideogram expand your description automatically — it produces richer results from short prompts.

Avoid

  • Long text with complex accented characters (especially in non-English languages) may come out with errors — the model performs best with short, direct phrases.
  • The free plan generates public images — anyone can see what you created in the community gallery. Private generation requires a paid plan.
  • The 10 weekly credits run out fast with heavy use. After that, generation enters a slow queue — it can take several minutes per image during peak hours.

Challenge · 5 minutes

Create an artwork with text right now

Open Ideogram, write a post description for your field (it could be a motivational phrase, an announcement, or a campaign call), and put the text you want to see in quotes in the prompt.

It worked if you receive 4 variations in under 30 seconds and at least one shows the text readable and correct inside the image.
