Gemini is Google's artificial intelligence tool. Think of it as a very well-informed colleague available 24 hours a day: you ask a question in plain language, paste a text, upload an image or PDF — and it responds, summarises, rewrites or explains in seconds. No new account. No credit card. Any Gmail account gives direct access at gemini.google.com.
30 essays and a free evening
A high-school writing teacher: at the end of each term, 30 essays to grade. Every handwritten comment took about 10 minutes. A whole afternoon, exhausted.

Open the address in your browser. If you are signed into Gmail, Gemini recognises your account automatically. Otherwise, click the sign-in button in the top right corner.
- Type your message in the text field
The field is centred or at the bottom of the screen. Write in plain language — a question, a request, a problem. Press Enter or click the send icon (arrow or paper plane).

- Ask for a new version or more detail
If the answer is not quite right, don't start over. Type something like "rewrite this more simply" or "add 3 more examples" — Gemini keeps the full context of your conversation.

Tips & real limitations
Do this
- Use the @Gmail and @Drive extensions to access your own files inside the conversation — no copying and pasting needed.
- Create a Gem (saved persona) with your fixed instructions — e.g. "always respond as an expert in primary education, in simple language" — and use it across all conversations.
- Upload a PDF of the syllabus or study guide directly into the conversation and ask questions about the content — works very well for studying and for analysing long documents.
Real limitations
- Gemini can hallucinate facts with confident tone — dates, names, statistics. Always verify critical information in external sources before using it.
- Full video generation with Veo and advanced Deep Research require the Google One Advanced plan (paid). In the free plan, these features are limited or unavailable.
- Gemini does not browse external websites by default. To search the web, find the search option in the interface and enable it explicitly before asking.

Among the big AI assistants, Gemini has the most complete free tier around today. For free you already get the top model (Gemini 3 Pro), image generation, deep research, and it talks to your Gmail and Drive. Hard to beat. But it's not all upside: the free tier's memory is short (32K tokens — a big PDF overflows it), usage limits are opaque and change without notice, and privacy comes semi-open by default.

What's in its favor
- The free tier is genuinely generous: access to all three Gemini 3 models, including Pro, no card required.
- Talks to your own Google stuff — summarizes Gmail, finds files in Drive, answers about YouTube videos, creates Calendar events.
- Fully in Portuguese with prices in reais — and the first paid tier (AI Plus, R$ 24.99/mo) is the cheapest upgrade among the big assistants.
- Loaded with extras even on free: Canvas, saved personas (Gems), image and music generation, audio summaries, quizzes and flashcards.
Where it lets you down
- On free, the context window is only 32K tokens — long PDFs and textbooks get cut off. 1 million tokens only from Pro (R$ 96.99/mo).
- Usage limits are opaque: Google doesn't say how many messages you get, and warns limits 'can change without notice.'
- Privacy needs manual setup: by default a sample of chats may be reviewed by humans and kept for up to 3 years.
- Video generation (Veo) doesn't exist on free — only from AI Plus onward.

- want to start with AI at zero cost, no card, no install — and if you upgrade, AI Plus at R$ 24.99 is the cheapest step up.
Maybe not if you…
- need to read long documents without paying — the 32K free context fills up fast; try NotebookLM instead.
- handle confidential info and won't configure privacy — by default a sample of chats may be human-reviewed.
- mainly want free video generation — there's no Veo on the free tier.
Other options that may serve better
When you're not in the Google ecosystem and want the most popular chat, with mature voice and image gen.

Yes. Any Google account uses it free on the web (gemini.google.com) and the app, including the top-tier Gemini 3 Pro model.
Do I need a credit card?
No. The free plan needs no card — just sign in with Gmail. A card is only needed for a paid upgrade.
Does it work in Portuguese?
Fully — interface, answers, voice input and even prices are shown in reais for Brazil.
What's the difference between free and paid?
Free has standard limits and a 32K token context. AI Plus (R$ 24.99/mo) doubles limits, raises context to 128K and unlocks video.
Does anyone read my chats?
Possibly — by default Google may use a sample of chats to improve the service, with human reviewers seeing some of them. You can turn this off.
