  1. Create a free account at notion.so

    Click "Get started for free" and sign up with email, Google, or Apple. No credit card required.

  2. Create a new page

    In the left sidebar, click "New page" (or the + icon next to a workspace). Give it a name for the content you want to create.

  3. Activate AI inside the page

    On a blank line within the page, press the Space key. An AI suggestion menu opens with options like "Write about…", "Summarize in bullets", and "Brainstorm ideas".

  4. Type your request in plain English

    In the field that appears, describe what you want: "Create a 5-topic weekly meeting agenda" or "Summarize this text in 3 main points and list the next actions".

  5. For complex requests: use the Notion Agent

    In the left sidebar, look for the "Notion Agent" icon or menu. It allows multi-step requests, web search, and context from your entire workspace.

  6. For databases: enable Autofill

    Open any database table in Notion, click "+" to add a new property, and choose "Autofill" — the AI suggests values based on the existing content of each row.

Tips & real limitations

Do this

  • Press Space on a blank line — it's the fastest way to open the AI menu and experiment on the free plan.
  • Provide context before asking: the more you describe the situation, the more accurate the response — the AI uses whatever already exists on the page.
  • Use Autofill in databases to categorize projects, suggest deadlines, and update statuses without typing each field individually.

Watch out

  • The free plan has limited AI: the trial period ends (usage limit is not published) and AI access may be blocked — full AI requires the Business plan.
  • Custom Agents consume extra credits ($10 per 1,000 credits), billed on top of the Business plan — check the cost before automating intensive processes.
  • Sensitive health data should not be processed in Notion AI outside the Enterprise plan — HIPAA compliance only exists at the highest tier, with zero retention by AI models.
